G. Holt et al. - De 8 en Opbouw. 14 daagsch Tijdschrift - 1935/1936. Amsterdam: van Holkema en Warendorf. The issues are bound in a cloth hardcover binder. Dim. binder approx. 28.5 × 23 cm. Weight: approx. 1.5 kg. All issues are bound without front page, except the first issue of the 7th volume (1937).
Famous magazine about mainly new architecture, but also covering new photography and furniture (including chairs) with tubular steel frame. With contributions of, among others: S. Giedion, Mart Stam, Cas Oorthuys, Piet Zwart, C. van Eesteren and B. Merkelbach.
This lot contains the following issues (pagination and binding is sometimes inconsistent, so with reservation).
Volume 7 (1936) nos 1 to 12 (146 pp.); nos. 15 to 19 (approx. 60 pp.). In between and after volume 7, some that are not quite identifiable: between nos. 12 and 15 is a (double-)issue on the new AVRO studios in Hilversum (28 pp, pagination from 1 to 28). This could be double-issue 13 / 14, with different pagination. After issue 19 a double-issue about Grand Hotel Gooiland (presumably volume 7, no. 20 / 21; 24 pp); an issue about the housing problem; an article on ‘Das Japanische Wohnhaus’ and an issue about a theatre study by H. Mastenbroek (probably 2 issues). Pagination continues (34 pp), so it could very well be no. 22-23 of the 7th volume.
Followed by: Volume 6 (1935) nos. 23 to 26 (approx. 50 pp). Between nos. 24 and 25 is a (double-) issue about schools, 32 pp (before that two seemingly deleted pages), school issue presumably from late 1936 / early 1937. In terms of pagination the next issue would be from volume 1936 (24 and 25), bound in a different location. The binder ends with volume 6, no. 2. (12 pp).
Thus: Volume 6, no. 2; 23-26; Volume 7, 304 pp. of the presumably 316 pp. of the complete volume (so probably 25 of the 26 issue).
Condition: fair. The cloth binder is somewhat worn, especially at bottom and top of the spine and in the margins and corners of the boards (boards discoloured in the margins). The spine is discoloured. The cloth is sometimes frayed, particularly on the joints. Some scuffs. The interior is generally in fair to good condition. The issues are firmly bound. The issues often have (vertical) folds. Several creases, dents, a small tear (sometimes with paper loss) and a spot/discolouration of the paper. The front cover of the issue is torn on the joint, over about a quarter of the entire length. The endpapers are foxed. Name in ink on front endpaper, and with pencil marks. Several signs of removed front covers.
