Since the 1960s Peter Hutchinson makes collages on locations all around the world, from the top of a volcano in Mexico to the bottom of the sea in Greece. The artist, born in London in 1930, studied at the University of Illinois in Urbana between 1953 and 1960. Hutchinson started his career as a geometric painter and was in close contact with minimal artists in New York, such as Sol LeWitt and Tadaaki Kuwayama. These two taught him to think as a conceptualist, although Hutchinson prefered poetic and nature-oriented art.
