Budsudan with a very rare statue of PROTECTOR OF HORSES Bato Kannon (29,5 cm) - Japan - 19th century (Edo period)
Good condition with some missing arms

A very rare to find statue of BATO KANNON housed in a very fine Zushi

Horse head on top of the head

Glass inlaid eyes in the 3 faces
Inner doors and back gold leaves

The zushi is not original but a good marriage

Horse-Headed Kannon. Protector of Animals. Batō Kannon appears in the Mahāvairocana Sūtra (Jp. = Dainichikyō composed sometime in the 6th / 7th century AD)

In Japan, farmers pray to Batō Kannon for the safety and preservation of their horses and cattle.

Condition : in good condition . wear . cracks , loss of paint / lacquer and some of his arms . see the pictures as well .
