Berthe Girardet exhibited the plaster of this work at the universal exhibition of 1900, she got a gold medal in the Helvetian Arts section, having been born in Marseille of a Swiss father.
In February 1902, the Museum of Neufchâtel in Switzerland takes possession of a bronze version of the work; it will appear at the Berthe Girardet exhibition organised in February 1925 at the Gallery Jean Charpentier, 76 faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.
The subject is the portrait of an old woman of Bernese Oberland.
