Stand included 2nd half 20th Century mask, sourced directly from Africa. The Chikunga is the most powerful and important Chowke mask. It's thought to be highly charged with power and considered sacred. The Chikunga is used during investiture ceremonies of a cheif and sacrificies to the ancestors.Outstanding example of a central African mask sourced in the 1970s. The wood is carved by hand and then dye is used with natural minerals. As they are carved by various tribes, each mask is unique.
