George Edward Foreman (Texas, on January 10, 1949) is an American ex-Boxer, twice heavyweight world champion. Nicknamed Big George became a success. He turned pro in 1969, his debut could not be better by winning by K.O. to Donald Walheim in three rounds in New York. He had a total of 13 combats that year, all with victory and 11 of these getting the K.O. of the opposite. The most impressive, the win against Cookie Wallace, in just 23 seconds.
In 1970, he continued his victorious career with 12 matches with a record of 12 wins, 11 of them by K.O. Some of them of as much importance as Gregorio Peralta, George Chuvalo, Charlie Polite or Boone Kirkman. A streak that followed in 1971 (7 out of seven combat victories). That's how Foreman became one of the top contenders for the WBA and WBC world titles.
And that opportunity came on January 22, 1973, when he faced heavyweight champion Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica. The fight had no story since Foreman knocked down the champion six times in the first two rounds, after rising from the sixth fall, Frazier was shocked by the punishment he was receiving and the referee stopped the fight. From there, Foreman became champion, but with an image during all this time of an aggressive guy, and as an example of the antisocial champion. His rudeness was frequent, especially to the press.
In spite of everything, Foreman defended the title a couple of times before losing it for the first time. The first fight would be in Tokyo against the Puerto Rican fighter José King Roman A combat that had no story, since Foreman got rid of him in just 55 seconds, the fastest K.O. in history between a contender and a champion. The next one, on paper, had to be more complicated. In the Polyhedron of Caracas, Big George was faced with Ken Norton, a notable boxer who had among his merits the broken jaw of none other than Muhammad Ali and to have won by points a year earlier. Anyway, Norton was not the same before Foreman in Caracas. The Texan won with ease in just two rounds. During that time, Foreman was considered a physical prodigy and one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport.
