On this Batak bone calendar you will find a schedule (notched) of writings and engravings of animals.
The Datu, or priest, originally wielded similar calendars as a dowsing rod. It helps him choose the good and also the bad days to undertake something as getting married or going hunting.
The Bataks, who live in the North of Sumatra, have their own private traditional belief next to the Christian religion. Through rituals there is contact with the spirits and ancestors.
