Original woodblock print diptych by Keisai Eisen 渓斎英泉 (1790-1848) - Shunga from the book "Konotegashiwa" 古能手佳史話 - Japan - 1836
The text in the cartouche reads: 'Kamakura Ogigayatsu dono bisho wo ai shite yukyo no zu' 鎌倉扇ヶ谷殿美妾を愛して遊興の図 (The Pleasures of loving a beauty from Ogigayatsu in Kamakura)
Possibly depicted are Samurai Uesugi (Kamakura Ougigayatsu) and his lover. This scene is on page 160 of the book "Shunga, sex and pleasure in Japanese art" published by the British Museum.
The book Konote-gashiwa was published in a small, luxurious print run. The special way of printing makes it so the colours on both panels match exactly.
Measurements (in total) 26.5 x 20.5 cm.
Good condition, see photos. Good colours, no tears. Stains, especially on the left panel. Binding holes in the margin of the left panel.
