Emile Fréchon trained as a journalist and was introduced to photography in the early 1880s. From 1887 on, he travelled regularly to Algeria. He often spent winters in Biskra, dividing his life between Boulogne sur Mer and Biskra, for six months of the year in each place. Emile Fréchon arrived in Biskra in 1897 and settled on rue Berthe in April 1904, and was referenced there until 1911.
