This is the original designed and engraved by Marcus Gheeraerts.
It is from the rare first Edwaert de Dene's edition in Bruges for
"De Warachtighe Fabulen der Dieren" dating 1567.
Reference: Hollstein 1-108
This etching was printed in 1567 and can be dated based on the Dutch letterpress on the backside. A French edition dates from 1578.
Later editions were published in the 17th and even 18th century (Vondel's Vorstelijke Warande der Dieren)
