Mboom is the second ranking royal mask of the Kuba, brother to the Mwash a mboy mask which represents the king. The Mboom mask is the oldest type of mask of the Kuba, going back to the 18th century. This type of mask has never had any holes for eyes, it is the ‘blind’ Queen Mboom. The masks are always richly decorated, covered with copper sheet and beads.
