Original woodblock print - Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) - The Wife of Shogun Tsunayoshi (綱吉公御台所) from the series "The Backyard of Pines and Malvaceae" 葵艸松の裏苑 - 1879
Beautiful woodcut by Toyohara Kunichika, entitled "The midaidokoro of Tsunayoshi" (綱吉公御台所) and depicting in the foreground Takatsukasa Nobuko (鷹司信子), buddhist name Jokoin (浄光院), the official wife of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (徳川綱吉), the shogun in charge in the years when took place the famous events concerning the legendary revenge of the forty-seven ronin.
The work, made in 1879 by the publisher Takegawa Seikichi (武川清吉), is taken from the series "The Backyard of Pines and Malvaceae" (葵艸松の裏苑). Remarkable the decoration of the title depicting the triple hollyhock, that is the emblem of the Tokugawa clan.
The print, despite the proper signs of aging including a small tear in the upper right corner, is in good general condition, thanks also to a relining carried out on the back.
The woodblock print will be well-packaged and shipped by registered mail with a tracking code.
