mid 20th century - Excellent condition, barely used with minimal signs of wear

Our long "Cauries-belt" was worn around the waist by Notables of the Court, during festivities (see photo).
Caurieschelpen (and especially the big ones) a money/exchange value and it illustrated the dominant position of the owner.

Ex. Colonial collection. Belgium.

Basis of woven raffia fibres.
Sewed on cowry shells (434 pieces!)
Both extremities hemmed with 12 cowry shells.
3 rows with glass beads.
Full length bordered with glass beads.

Exceptionally large belt!
