The Silurian fishbeds in Scotland are closed to the public by Scottish Natural Heritage. Therefore Silurian fish are hard to get. This Lasanius problematicus has been collected during the 1980s. The specimen is well preserved and shows even soft-tissue preservation (photographs 1 - 3). It is from Lanarkshire, Lower-Silurian (about 430Myr) and measures 28mm.
Palaeospondylus (= old vertebrae) gunni is also an enigmatic fossil fish. Workers haven't solved its affinities yet. This specimen was found in the Achanarras Quarry in Caithness. Middle-Devonian (385 Myr) and measures 27mm. (Photographs 4 and 5.)
