Sculpture - Wood - Iagalagana - Mumuye - Nigeria
2nd half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

Mumuye Ancestor Figure.
NO PRICE LIMIT.
Size: 28 cm
Provenance: Collected in situ during the 60's by a french road constructor who travelled through Nigeria and had his own private museum in France ( now dismantled) .

Age: mid XXth-century. Some cracks above the breasts and restoration, slight insect damage on the side of the feet, see images.

The Mumuye artists abstract interpretation of the human body, which recalls that of cubist and expressionist artists, has been immensely appealing to African art enthusiasts. Their anthropomorphic figures demonstrate an astonishing range of variations, testifying to their makers, unbridled creativity and limitless inventiveness.
