The Austrian painter Adolf Baumgartner was born in 1850 in Linz, and studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg in the 1880s.
He is primarily known as an equestrian painter and his “Russian” scenes with Cossacks and hunters on horseback are very popular and have been auctioned-off for very high prices (up to €30,000).

He used a variety of pseudonyms, “C. Stoiloff” is one of them.
