Unique tapestry, depicting the battle of the troops of Alexander the Great against those of Darius III, King of the Persians.
This tapestry is a part of a series [History of Alexander the Great]. The tapestries of the series have been sold at the most prestigious auction houses [Christie's London, Christie's New York]. This one was acquired at the "Galerie Gabrielle Laroche" in 1984.
A similar tapestry, both in the concept and the period, is preserved in Vienna, Austria, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Another one of the same series is at the Royal Palace of Madrid in the Reception Hall of King Phillip VI.
