Etching - Not signed - 1632-1635

Les images des Saints.

Early impression from the first edition published in Paris by Israël Henriet. Before all rework. From the earlies impression available, a second state while the first before the publishers address of Israël is only known from a few examples (R.R.R.R.)

I have a couple of uncut sheet with wide margins. Original pinholes on top where the series was once bound together with a small rope still visible.

With the watermark 'huchet' showing a post horn as called for by Lieure to be found on these early (first) Paris impressions. Before any rework, before altered titles, before text.

Four oval scenes showing events of saints celebrated in August; an abbot standing on a shore and watching several ships caught in a storm (St Philibert's day); three men beating a hermit in a rocky landscape (St Privatus' Day); a saint followed by soldiers armed with spears, and by his mother, with beheading scene in the background (St Symphorian's day); a saint standing in a landscape, holding a crucifix and reading (St Philip Benizi's Day)
