Albumen photograph, hand-painted with watercolour, attributed to the studio of Felice Beato in Yokohama (2nd half 19th c.). It comes from the Antonio Ferri (*) collection evaluated by Finarte of Milan for the auction of November 2017 (please see catalogue page and detail of the description).
The stock was taken from an accordion album -the same of the photographs presented by Finarte- and carries two photographs: a samurai who imparts justice, at his feet a kneeling woman begs for mercy for the man behind bars.
On the back the charming landscape of the Kirihara waterfalls; marked in pencil.
(*) Antonio Ferri is a scholar and collector of archaeological photography. Expert connoisseur of the activity of the Beato brothers. Among his publications ‘Il fotografo dei Faraoni - Antonio Beato in Egitto 1860-1905’.
