Virgilio Guidi (Rome 1891 – Venice 1984)
The artist exhibited at the XIII Biennale of Venice in 1922. In 1924 he gained success at the XIV Biennial of Venice with his “Tram”. Between 1928 and 1929 he took part in the 16th Venice Biennale and here he presents one of the texts that will remain a milestone of his Venetian period: "La Giudecca". In this work the meridian light stops its image in an absolute spatiality. Later he was invited again to exhibit at the XVIII Venice Biennale. A personal room is reserved for him to exhibit his works in the II National Art Quadrennial in Rome, where he is awarded. The following year he exhibited at the XX Venice Biennale. In 1940 he was invited by the Academy to the XXII Venice Biennale, where he was reserved an entire personal exhibition room. He returned to exhibit at the XXIV Venice Biennale and took part in the Space Movement, powered by Lucio Fontana. He died in Venice on 7 January, 1984.
