Bronze box for tobacco with very rich decorations on all four sides, top-quality execution.
Made between 1850/1860. It comes from Austria and is part of a series of luxury items for the wealthy clients of that period. The sides and lid are made with a bronze plate. The lid is topped by a bronze Turkish, sitting like a king. The inner part was covered by a green cloth, which was removed. On three sides there are neoclassical characters, framed by charming trees. In each of them we can see the presence of eros. On one side there is the scene of a brewer serving beer.
Height of the box: cm 18.5, width cm 10.2. It still has the original patina of that period. One foot is missing and the lid hinge is slightly shifted.
