Printing press - Iron (cast) - 1862

Description
Printing press - Iron (cast) - 1862
Belgium

This hand press was built after the example of J.P. Lejeune in Brussels. Year of manufacture - circa 1862. The counterweight has the shape of the Belgian lion.
Richard Whittaker Cope is the inventor of the Albion press. This metal press is based on the wooden printing press with which Johannes Gutenberg printed his famous Gutenberg Bible.
The technique from the year 1450 was still similar to the way of printing in 1840. Only the presses then were from iron instead of wood.
The text present at the printing press is a French amorous battle song from 1866 'Le Temps des Cerises'.
The press is in working condition, only the corrosion-sensitive parts could need some cleaning.
