mid 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

Our "Pirarara" mask of the above Xingu River symbolises the spirit of the "catfish".
It was used as a disease mask to expel the ill making spirit.

Semi hard wood type.
Matt, black/white painting.
Eyes and mouth of black tree resin with inlaid fishbone.
Two raffia bushes as ears on the sides.
All around underneath raffia beard.
Traces of wear and tear.
Chip at the top.
