White wine - Germany

It is the black basalt, the mineral heritage of Pechsteinkopf, which gives the wine growing here a very distinctive note. The smell and taste of the pitch stone is, as often happens, the sensory squaring of the circle: starting with fruity, subtle, exotic, yellow aromas, which are replaced by a tight, dense character with the typical mineral salinity, which finds its completion in a long, youthful fresh lingering elegance.
A formerly active volcano, the Pechsteinkopf above Forst, distributed large amounts of volcanic rock before time immemorial. In the underground Pechstein are therefore several Balsaltadern, which extend at the end of the valley like a fan. Loose basalt scree is located on the surface of the location. Furthermore, one finds in the Pechstein red Buntsandstein weathering soil and sandy loam. In about 2 m depth you will find, as in many Forster locations, clay and limestone layers. The proportion of clay and loam in the pitchstone results in a high water capacity of the soil. This results in a high mineralization and perfect water balance during the growing season. A great physiological maturity is the result.
