Barometer, Huygens - Wood - Second half 20th century

Barometer, Huygens - Wood - Second half 20th century

At the end of last century, the Netherlands

Beautifully designed contra-barometer with clear Dutch text. Very functional and decorative.
"Contra" because the red coloured liquid in the more accurate right tube is at the top during bad weather, whereas the "normal" simple mercury barometer is exactly the other way around. (invention of Huygens)
Also equipped with an accurate thermometer, also with red liquid. (80 cm)
Trimmed with tight frame of solid wood without deer head and/or oak leaves. Dimensions 26X110X6 cm.
With tap in mercury tube to allow horizontal transport without mixing mercury with red liquid.
Given the fragility of this barometer, pick up is our preference, if you want us to send the barometer, we will treat it with the utmost care, however any damage will not be recoverable to us.
