The V 200.1 (or Series BR 221) is a heavier version of the V200 and was built by the company Kraus-Maffei. The power output of the V 200.1 was 1350 HP, whilst the older V 200.0 was fitted with engines with an output of 1100 HP, which was insufficiently powered for pulling the heavier and longer trains.
The locomotives were used for both freight transport and passenger transport. The company numbers of the Series V200.1 were changed in 1968 to reflect the BR 221 series numbers. Company numbers V200 101 - 150 were changed to 221, 101 - 150. This locomotive has a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The locomotives were manufactured during the period 1962-1965. A total of 50 locomotives of the Series BR V200.1/BR221 were built. The last locomotive of the Series V 200.1/BR221 was taken out of service by the DB in 1988.
