At the beginning of the 1960s, the 300 SE was the most powerful rally car from Mercedes-Benz. Among his most spectacular achievements in 1963 ranked one, two and four at the Grand Prix for Touring Cars of Argentina. The issued vehicle drove however no rallies; equipped with sunroof, it served race director Karl Kling as a company car.
