Isidore Opsomer. Lier 1878-1967 Antwerpen
Belgian painter. Training at the Academy of Lier and the Academy of Abtwerpen. From 1898 student at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under the direction of A. and J. De Vriendt.
Travelled to Rome in 1904 and to France, Germany and Austria in 1905. During WW I he stayed in England for a few months and in 1915 he settled in the Netherlands, where he worked with G.H. Breitner. Until 1914 he made many anecdotal and romanticized townscapes and later, under the influence of Breitner's style, more robust and painted with strong brushstrokes, interiors, landscapes. From 1919 teacher and from 1826-1949 director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
Beautiful, very smooth and with strong brushstrokes, interior with girl in blue dress sitting on a chair. Dated around 1915.
