The amulets were discovered in the graves of exceptional persons of the Liangzhu culture and of the Hongshan culture, probably both temporal and the spiritual masters.

Regarding the period, it is difficult to give a precise date.
The Hongshan culture is a Neolithic culture (4700-2900 BC) from Northeastern China.
