Oil on board, by master Sante Calcagni - Italy -
Depiction of a family portrait with young mother and child posing with his hands joined in prayer after having received the sacrament of Communion. A moving scene that the artist was able to imprint in this extraordinary painting showing high levels of realism.
Painter from Vicenza, born in Lonigo (Veneto region) - Italy - shy and reserved artist specialised in genre scenes, domestic life, anecdotal compositions and beautiful depictions of every day life: he took part in rare artistic events, such as the National Exhibition of Venice in 1887 with the painting “Manca un soldo”. Calcagni’s art is characterised by a pictorial virtuosity and a variety in chromatic ranges, along with a remarkable technical and compositional expertise in describing attitudes and face expressiveness (often cheerful and smiling) in great detail.
With simple painting but with compositional wisdom, he succeeds in creating an intense atmosphere in this work, with a lively game of chromatic cross-references that underlines the ability to create a careful environmental investigation, besides that of delivering the different psychological moments with sincere sharing, sometimes amused and amusing.
