Age: approx.18th-19th century
The Yatagan (Turkish: Yatağan) is an Ottoman sabre named after the town of the same name in southwestern Turkey. The Yatagan was used from the mid-16th century until the early 20th century. The Turkish infantry, for example the Janissaries, wore a relatively short version of the Yatagan, which was not a hindrance during the march. In the Balkans, the Yatagan was also a weapon for Hajduks during this period, who usually acquired a Yatagan as a prey weapon.
A common stretch tear in the handle; otherwise in perfect condition, see the photos.
