Louis Kalff - Philips - Desk lamp (1) - Timor 69

Description
Louis Kalff - Philips - Desk lamp (1) - Timor 69
Netherlands - 1950-1959 - Metal

This modernist lamp was designed by Louis Kalff (1897–1976) in the 1950s and was produced by Phillips under the model name Timor 69. The outside of the shade is matte brown and the inside is white to serve as a reflector. The stand is gold-coloured brass. The lamp seems to be a forerunner of the 'Evoluon' in Eindhoven, the architectonic masterpiece by Louis Kalff serving as exposition centre for science and technology. This building looks like a flying saucer, a recurrent shape in the lighting objects by Louis Kalff. Louis Kalff is also the designer of the world-famous Philips logo as we still know it today. Louis Kalff was successful both as industrial designer and as an architect.
