Austro-Hungarian naval officer’s dagger, piece from the last pattern 1917/18.
The blade is 28 cm long and has a central rib, it has etchings on both sides, decorated with an anchor, entwined in a rope, as well as the Hungarian coat of arms with crown.
The blade has slight flash rust. The hilt is exquisitely decorated, coat of arms with Holy Crown of Hungary on the crossguard. White grooved ivory grip with silver wire wrapping, pommel in the shape of a double wall and crown knot.
The locking button moves, but the head is missing. Hammered scabbard with two movable carrying rings on the side, wonderfully decorated with an anchor, entwined in a rope, inside an oval. Neptune’s head, trident and dolphin.
This dagger comes from an officer’s family in Budapest, the engraving dates from the 14th of June 1931, that’s when the officer was promoted.
