The designer:
Gerard van de Berg, born in Dordrecht in 1947, is a Dutch interior designer, known as co-founder of the Montis furniture factory and Label. Despite his love for painting and sculpting, he followed his father's advice to enrol for a technical furniture manufacturing study at the Middelbare Technische School (intermediate technical school) in Rotterdam. After his studies, Mr Van den Berg went travelling first. Before his return to the Netherlands, Gerard van den Berg contacted his father, who owned a furniture factory.  This was a good move. With his understanding of technical matters, Van den Berg could very well follow the patternmaker's advice and soon started making templates and cutting models for his own designs. His designs were a great success at the fair in Utrecht. He quit at this father's and started his own design company.  His brother Ton, who studied economics, joined and thus the company Montis was born. They were a great success at the next Utrecht fair. In 1991, he and his brother founded the seating furniture company Label Produkties BV.
