Sober work of the beloved painter Ansingh. Recently professionally cleaned and provided with a new, handmade Niemeijer frame. Canvas size 61X31cm, size including frame 75x46. Superficial, barely striking crackle.

Herman Johannes Ansingh was born on March 20 in 1880 in Nijmegen. He was a son of Borcherd Johan Frederik Ansingh and Maria Cristina Cornelia Melms. His father had a tobacco shop in the fairly exclusive Boerstraat no. 35 in Nijmegen.

He lived and worked in Nijmegen, The Hague, Amsterdam, Harderwijk, Nijmegen until 1938, The Hague 1938-1955, after that in Harderwijk. A student at the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam (1901-1902) and at the Rijksakademie yonder (1902-1905). 

He moves to The Hague in 1908 and marries 24-07-1912 with Jeanette Ossedrijver. A week after the marriage the couple settles in Harderwijk (Smeepoort A number 260). He painted, drew and etched landscapes and in particular old neighbourhoods, old cities (Harderwijk). Herman Ansingh passed away in Harderwijk op 6 September 1957.
