Two original gouaches, supplied by Leemker who lived in the Hague for a publication from the Zuid-Hollandsche Uitgeversmaatschappij, also from the Hague.
The draughtsman/illustrator and painter at his best: he knows how to bring an impressionistic stroke to his work with a lot of flair. In addition, he has an eye for many surprising details.
These illustrations were probably made between 1940 and 1960, in which Leemker delivered a lot of work for many book and magazine publishers.
One of the two drawings is signed on the top right, both have a pencil scribble on the back with 'Leemker'.
The simple frames included have been added for protection; they actually deserve a generous mount. (they were framed in the past, stuck onto cardboard, see backs, those frames fell apart because the glass plates were too large).
Both gouaches measure 27 by 18 cm.
