Egbert Schaap was a man of importance in the art world of his time. He was one of the founders of Sint Lucas in Amsterdam, an association of artists in which young impressionists gathered, and in 1913 he became chairman. After his studies at the Amsterdam State Academy and his marriage to the painter Hendrika van der Pek, he settled in 1896 on the outside of Villa Nova near Kortenhoef. His landscapes, often drenched in sunlight and painted with a smooth brush, were often created after that time in the surroundings of 's Graveland, Kortenhoef, Nigtevecht and Ankeveen. The painter's work can be found in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum, among other places.
