An elegant young couple, holding hands. Above their heads is an emblem with a heart pierced with an arrow.

Signatures: M.; F. Franck invent.; Le Blond excud avec Privilege

Inscription: “Vos beautez sont les feus et la troupe fatale - qui rend amour vainqeur - Et les traitz de vos yeux sont les traitz de Cephale - Qui ne blessent qu’au Coeur.”

Condition: Good impression. Cut close to border. Age-related colouring of paper. Fox mark or stain near top-edge. (see photos)

On laid paper, with grapes(?) watermark

Reference:

Michel Lasne (Caen ca. 1590–1667, Paris), was a prodigious French engraver. He worked 1617-1620 under the direction of Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck. In 1621 he was in Paris, becoming the official engraver for King Louis XIII. He engraved over 700 prints including many reproductive engravings after well-known painters.

“F. Franck” may be the Antwerp painters Franz Francken III (1607-1667) or Frans Francken the Younger (1581-1642)
