Oshie dolls geisha servants daikokuten (11) - Bamboo, Cotton, Paper, Silk - Japan - First half 20th century

On auction a very nice lot of 11 oshie dolls representing some geisha, servants, the God daikokuten, one of the seven deities of luck.

Oshie is a traditional technique using pieces of Japanese kimono fabric and cotton batting that are used to create beautiful doll pictures. Individual parts of the image are formed by creating small "shaped" puffy pillows and then pieced together to form the final pictures.

Some scratches here and there as seen in the pictures, but in overall good conditions for their age.

Period 1st half 20th century

Sizes varies from 16x16cm for the small one to around 32x18cm for the largest one.
