Justinien, Alphonse Bérenger de la Drôme - Les Novelles de l'Empereur Justinien [suivi de] Nouvelles constitutions de l'Empereur Léon Auguste. Metz, Lamort, 1809. 2 volumes in-4, 479-p & 359-138p.
Original editions of the translations. Justinian's novels (first volume and first part of the second volume) form one of the four components of Justinian's legal corpus. The translator is Alphonse Bérenger de la Drôme known as Bérenger Jr. (his father being a well-known jurist and deputy). The book is printed in two columns: on the left Latin, on the right, French.
The new constitutions are printed in the same way but only with a Latin translation by Henry Agyleus and a French translation by Dunoyer de Ségonzac. The original text is in Greek.
Half-percaline binding with corners (interesting because very old for a percaline binding), a little old. small angular water stain on a small part of Volume 2, a few foxing.
