16th century Wooden sculpture representing Catherine of Alexandria with Emperor Maxentius at her feet.
The sculpture highlights the power of doctrine against demons and also how a woman, at the end of Dark Ages, could develop a new form of spirituality.
Oak wood on a small base of chestnut wood added later in 20th century.
The item is of great quality. The robe is partially heightened in gold.
Part of the left arm is missing. Right arm and hand hold a book.
