Description
Powerful fetish Botchio Vodun - Ewe / Fon - Benin
1st half 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

71 x 26 cm
wood, sacrificial materials, padlocks, iron, asen, ropes, etc.
Formerly of Mafaya Gallery, Brussels

Imposing fetish statue crafted for protection or to solve problems.
The use of fetishes created by a shaman still currently remains popular in this region of Africa.
Large figure accompanied by a smaller fetish around the neck. With the presence of many libations and accessories: padlocks, irons, candles, other elements. There is also an Asen altar (also of the Fon ethnic group) at the back of the head.
This is an exceptional piece given its dimensions, the richness of its elements and the quality of the sculpture.
Thick sacrificial patina.
Undoubtedly a remarkable item.
