Secrétaire - Empire Style - Mahogany feather. - Late 19th century

The evolution of the drop-front desk is the secretaire that was created at the end of the eighteenth century and developed throughout the nineteenth century. The secretaire, as its name suggests, was designed to facilitate the work of the secretaries. They were characterised by a drop-down top that could be locked with a key or mechanisms. This one is made of mahogany crotch with finely chiselled gilded bronze fittings and has a structure with two stacked parts. The lower part contains 3 drawers, the central part has a drop-down top that contains several drawers and compartments. The front is characterised by two feathered columns with a central bottleneck. The top is made of marble.
