Two 12mo volumes: XIX--456 + -495--143 pages
The original edition of the Histoire du ciel was published in Paris in 1739. This is a new impression in two parts, one dealing with the origin of the Greek sphere according to the Warburton system and the history of divinities, the other containing the analysis of the ideas of ancient philosophers.
Complete with 25 interesting (sometimes weird) copper-plates, including the frontispiece representing Democritus; they show figures and objects of worship related to Egyptian, Greek and Roman mythologies.
The second volume includes the Supplement to the History of Heaven, with its title proper to the date of 1741, which is a response to the criticisms received by Pluche after the publication of his book.
