Cornelis Brandenburg was born in the year 1884 in Wormerveer and became one of the Dutch most famous etcher of (Amsterdam) cityscapes.
The city archive of Amsterdam has 64 etchings by him; he made over a hundred pieces of Amsterdam.
He was a student of August Allebé, Antoon Derkinderen, Pieter Dupont and Georg Rueter.
Brandenburg was a member of Arti et Amicitiae (Amsterdam).
In 1902 he moved to Amsterdam and studied at the drawing school for art crafts.
He worked at “De Distel” in Amsterdam as a painter of pottery.
Thereafter, he concentrated fully on etching and became the most important etcher of the canals of Amsterdam.
He died in Amsterdam in 1954.
A book was published with all his etchings.
