Contra-barometer - Wood - Second half 20th century

Description
Contra-barometer - Wood - Second half 20th century
Netherlands

The Huygens contra barometer is an invention of our compatriot Christiaan Taan Huygens (1670). The system works with two tubes connected on the underside, that are filled with mercury and coloured oil with a low density. The main feature of a contra barometer is that it does not indicate the ascent of the air pressure from bottom to top, but vice versa. Hence the name contra barometer. It is a typical Dutch product.
Shipping can be arranged in consultation due to the fragility of the item.
