The ‘Journal de Mickey’ magazine started in Paris in October 1934 at the instigation of Paul Winkler, founder of the Opéra Mundi agency, owner of the Disney comics rights in France.
The first edition is dated from October 21st, 1934.
The Disney characters are always on the front page. This magazine also features soap operas written by French authors, a reader's letter and advertisements about the ‘Club Mickey’.
Because of the German occupation, the publication of the ‘Journal de Mickey’ magazine ceased on June 16th, 1940, at N°296. Paul Winkler went into exile in the United States, and as a French Jew of Hungarian descent, he was a victim of the Laws of Vichy in France. He was therefore dispossessed of his titles.
He It was published again in Marseille in December 1943, and then every 10 days and then every two months from January 1944.
On July 2nd, 1944, its publication ceased for eight years. The 1943-1944 edition did not contain any American comic strip but only French authors.
This period was even called ‘the Golden Age of comic books’.
