Guy Vandenbranden turns away from figuration around 1951, and develops a constructivist abstraction with great affinity to the work of P. Mondriaan and V. Vasarely. Experiments with assemblies, reliefs and objects. Later returns to the abstract design with clean lines and depth-suggesting forms, in uniform spread colours. Award H. Jacquet (1956, 1958), Award JPB (1957). Member of Taptoe, Art Abstrait and founding member of Formes, Art construit and “De Nieuwe Vlaamse School” (1960). Also makes monumental art. Murals in the Town Hall of Strombeek (Grimbergen). Work in the subway station West in Brussels (1982). Work a.o. in the museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liège (Walloon art), Mechelen, Mu.Zee (Ostend) and Verviers.
