The Leie was one of Raveel's most favourite themes and served as inspiration for many a painting.
In 1971 the artist protested with the action "Raveel op de Leie" against the muting of the Leie River "Machelenput". He covered a raft with blue plastic bags, mounted a painting on it and made the raft float the river Leie, from Machelen to Afsnee. This historical event was one of the highlights from the rich career of Roger Raveel.
