6 wine or port wine glasses in St. Louis or Baccarat crystal, model Caton, circa 1850
A strong crystal model dating from the second half of the 19th century, Caton was originally produced by both Baccarat and St Louis, who then shared a single catalogue. Later, we find the model in the Baccarat catalogue of the Arts de la Table of 1907, and in the St Louis catalogues of the 20th century under the name of Caton. It has been able to withstand the centuries without going out of style.
This model in cut crystal is today one of the great classics of the Cristallerie Saint Louis. It has been appreciated everywhere (a set prized in embassies), by its very simple shape, its density (the glasses are quite thick and very pleasant to hold in hand).
St Louis has maintained the production and marketing of this range: glasses, decanters, knife holders, cups... are finally listed in the catalogues for more than 100 years (current price of new glass € 99 to 110 depending on the format). The model took its final name in the first half of the 20th.
Ancient production from the 19th century, the glasses we sell here do not have any stamp: it is only from 1936 that the crystal factories replaced the label in place of signature, which left after some washing, by the famous acid-etched stamp.
